GenRad Acquires Nicolet Imaging Systems and
Sierra Research and Technology, Inc.

WESTFORD, MA, Mar. '00 -- GenRad, Inc. has announced its acquisition of Nicolet Imaging Systems (NIS) and its sister company Sierra Research and Technology, Inc. (SRT) from ThermoSpectra Corporation, a subsidiary of Thermo Instrument Systems, Inc. The combined purchase price was $40 million.

According to GenRad, this acquisition expands the company's range of electronics-manufacturing test solutions to include manual and automated X-ray inspection as well as rework and repair.

Nicolet Imaging Systems is a leading provider of X-ray inspection technologies. NIS's patented in-line X-ray technology complements GenRad's current end-of-line board test product offerings. X-ray imaging is becoming the technology of choice for process and structural testing of advanced electronic assemblies. GenRad says that this acquisition will allow the opportunity to extend its product offerings by providing distributed test solutions to customers with the GENEVA, TestStation, GR Pilot, GR Versa and GR Viper product ranges.
