Coherent Unveils New Amplification System
SANTA CLARA, CA, May 25 -- Coherent, Inc., Laser Group has introduced the Vitesse Duo -- a compact, all-solid-state, high-power ultrafast amplification system. It combines Coherent's RegATM 9000 regenerative amplifier and a specially designed VitesseTM Ti:sapphire oscillator. According to the company, it is the first ultrafast laser design to incorporate both the amplifier seed and pump source in a single package. The system is designed to provide high-power ultrafast pulses for applications such as femtosecond micromachining, imaging, and ultrafast spectroscopy. "Enclosed within the Vitesse Duo is a 10W Verdi continuous-wave laser, which serves as a pump for both the integrated, Vitesse ultrafast oscillator and the RegA amplifier," said Steve Butcher, Coherent Laser Group product manager. "Previously, it would have taken one system to seed the amplifier and then another system to pump it. This new combination is remarkably compact and produces the highest amplifier repetition rates available, combined with excellent beam quality and stability." According to Coherent, the RegA 9000 regenerative amplifier provides repetition rates variable up to 100 kHz. The Vitesse Duo features dual output beams of 532 nm (cw) and 800 nm (modelocked, 100 fsec). Active pointing control within the Vitesse Duo assures long-term laser-head alignment, and light loop stabilization provides optimal power stability. In addition to providing high-power light for micromachining and spectroscopy applications, the output of the RegA can be used for optical parametric amplifier pumping, offering the capability of widely tunable ultrafast pulses at repetition rates up to 100 kHz.
