Lambda Physik Rolls Out Gator 355-3
FORT LAUDERDALE, FL, May 18 -- Lambda Physik has announced the GatorTM 355-3 -- an industrial-grade, UV, DPSS laser designed for micromachining and microdrilling hard materials. According to the company, the Gator 355-3 features a 10 kHz repetition rate and over 3W average power; a hermetically sealed laser head; 5,000-hour diode lifetime warranty; completely hands-free operation; and a remote/removable supply unit. Gator UV's 355 nm wavelength and high peak power make it suitable for high aspect ratio microdrilling (thickness 0.250 mm - 0.750 mm) in stainless and steel alloys, titanium, nickel, aluminum, and copper alloys. Lambda Physik adds that micromachining in silicon nitride, aluminum nitride, and silicon carbide ceramics and diamond provides similar results. Trepan drilling/milling with the Gator UV's near-diffraction-limited/TEM00 beam controls the Heat Affected Zone and reduces plasma effects. The company says that this yields excellent surface and dimensional quality, with taper tolerances of only a few micrometers.
