Thorlabs Introduces ASE-FL7200 White Light Test Source

NEWTON, NJ, Nov. 2 -- Thorlabs, Inc. has added the ASE-FL7200 to its growing line of high-brightness white light sources. This high-brightness test source is designed to produce amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) ranging from 1440nm to 1500nm, with a high spectral power density. Applications include the testing of optical components related to 1.47mm pumping for 1.5mm EDFAs, and general transmission applications in the 1.4mm band.

The ASE-FL7200 is constructed from a single Tm-doped fluoride fiber optically pumped by a single laser diode. The 1440nm-1500nm emission is produced from the 3F4 - 3H4 transition in the Tm ion in fluoride glass.

According to Thorlabs, ASE-FL7200 features include:

  • Output fiber: SMF-28
  • Total output power: > + 1dBm; 1.25 mW
  • Spectral density (typical): > -20dBm/nm @ 1450-1490nm
  • Power stability: < +/- 0.03% (15 min.)
  • Size (rack-mount hardware included): 88mm (H) x 230mm (W) x 352mm (D)
  • Operation temperature: 0oC - 45oC
  • Storage temperature: -10oC - 45oC
  • Price: $24,800 (U.S.)
