 Spectra-Physics,
Mountain View, CA, says that its Mai-TaiTM
laser is the first and only tunable Ti:sapphire femtosecond laser source
in one box. The laser, which combines the Millennia diode-pumped laser
with Tsunami Ti:sapphire technology, has an output power of more than
700 mW and a pulsewidth of <100 fs at 800 nm. The laser has a standard
tuning range of 750-850 nm, over 100 nm; it can be easily customized
for specific applications. The laser head, constructed as a monolithic
box, is 59 x 35 x 12 cm (12 x 14 x 5 in.)
