Museum of Science Installs Laser Projector

BOSTON, MA -- The Museum of Science in Boston is now using a ColorVision laser projection system to convey information to the 1.8 million visitors who pass through its doors each year. The new system was developed by the Corporation for Laser Optics Research (COLOR), which manufactures pulsed lasers capable of projecting large-screen, full-color images. The ColorVision system, with its 7 1/2 -by-10-foot display screen, is designed to project full-color video images even in well-lit areas.

"The Museum of Science has always been a place where people go to see innovation in science and technology," said David W. Ellis, president and director of the Museum of Science. "So it is only natural that we are the first museum in the world to take advantage of a revolutionary application for lasers."

The ColorVision system serves as a "jumbo display" for videos and announcements in the brightly lit main concourse of the museum.
