Corning Acquires Rochester Photonics

CORNING, NY, Feb. 15 -- Corning Inc. has announced its acquisition of Rochester Photonics Corporation (RPC), a company specializing in the field of diffractive optics and microlenses. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. RPC, based in Rochester, NY, will report into Corning-owned U.S. Precision Lens, Inc., (USPL) in Cincinnati, OH.

Diffractive optics and microlenses have applications in markets such as telecommunications, photonics, optical data storage, optical computing, laser scanning, medical optics, camera lenses, and automotive lighting.

"The acquisition of RPC is a win-win situation for all parties," said Norm Garrity, president of Corning Technologies. "RPC is developing leading-edge specialty optics and has distinctive competencies in designing, analyzing, and prototyping this technology."

Michael Morris, CEO of Rochester Photonics added that "The merging of RPC's design and prototyping expertise with USPL's world-class manufacturing capabilities provides our customers with the full spectrum of support needed to rapidly introduce new optical and photonic products into the marketplace."
