Hamamatsu Introduces Photo IC/LED Pair

SAN JOSE, CA -- Hamamatsu Corporation has introduced the S7141 photo IC and L7140 red LED. The company says that together, these devices provide a high-performance solution for light generation and detection in optical data link applications at 650 nm.

The L7140 is designed to operate at 650 nm, with a spectral half width of 20 nm. According to Hamamatsu, its data-transfer speed is DC to 50 Mb/s, rise and fall time for pulse operation is less than 8 ns, light output is a least -7 dBm, forward voltage is typically 1.9 V, and reverse current is 10 µA.

In addition to a data-transfer speed of DC to 50 Mb/s, the S7141 photo IC is designed to operate with a maximum receiving level of 5 dBm, minimum receiving level of -17.5 dBm, and output rise and fall time of less than 7 ns. Supply voltage is 4.75 to 5.25 VDC at less than 40 mA.

According to the company, both devices have an output voltage of 10 VDC, power voltage of 0.5 to +7 VDC, and operating temperature range of -0 to +60 degrees C.

Priced at $3.56 and $3.05 in production quantities respectively, the S7141 and L7140 are available for delivery in one to two weeks for samples.
