Coherent Announces New
Blue Laser Diode Module

BALTIMORE, MD, May 25 -- Coherent has introduced new laser diode modules operating in the blue/violet range of the spectrum. According to the company, these are the first such devices to be made commercially available. They are available with output power up to 4mW at 400nm, and delivery optics can be designed to give either a focused spot, line, or collimated beam.

Coherent says that recent advances in semiconductor technology have allowed the company to produce a reliable, long-lifetime Indium Gallium Nitride-based laser diode module with direct light output at 400nm. Applications for this blue/violet coherent light source include spectroscopy, biomedical instrumentation, fluorescence, microscopy, printing/photocopiers, and optical storage.
