BALTIMORE, MD, CLEO 1999 -- Hamamatsu Corporation has introduced the S7170-0909 and S7171-0909 series of back-thinned FFT-CCDs, designed for scientific applications requiring detection of low levels of light. According to the company, these devices feature >90% quantum efficiency (QE) and are suitable for scientific measuring instruments, optical analyzers, UV imaging, and bio-photon observations. Hamamatsu says that the S7170-0909 and S7171-0909 offer excellent QE from the UV to near-IR and feature a low dark current of 3 e/pixel/s at -30o C. To assure high-precision measurements, both CCDs are designed for stable spectral response curves over the entire 200 nm to 1100 nm spectral response range. Dynamic range of the Multi Pin Phase (MPP) mode CCDs is 37,500 to 1 in area-scanning mode; readout noise is 6 e rms. The S7171-0909 is designed with either a one- or two-stage built-in thermoelectric cooler, depending on application requirements. At room temperature, the S7171-0909 can be cooled down to -10o C by the one-stage cooler and -30o C by the two-stage cooler. The company says that no dry air is required, due to hermetic sealing of both the CCD chip and the thermoelectric cooler. Both CCDs are mounted in a 24-pin ceramic package measuring 50.0 L x 22.9 W and 7.7 H (mm). A sapphire window protects the active area. The S7170-0909 and S7171-0909 CCDs are priced at $4,825 and $5,925, respectively, in small quantities. Delivery is 4-6 weeks ARO. |
